Day 90 - Computer Time!

Working in the dark!

This is me and my computer.  Nothing much else to it.  I  wanted to double check my logo before bed and then thought it would make a nice photo like this previous one i did of the BF.

As I always seem to be, I've fallen behind again!

Day 89 - Letters of Light

Turning Street Lights into Letters!

So on the way back from shooting more photos of light trails (can you tell I'm kinda of in love with that technique yet?), we got the idea to try and turn the light of the street lamp into letters!

This was fun, but slightly more difficult than I first imagined.  You have to draw the letter with your camera but upside down and mirrored! If that makes sense.  I started from the bottom straight up to the top then back to the middle then left down back to the middle and finally left up and back! Confused? Haha!

Then you have to wait and see if you managed to draw it correctly because the camera has to process the image! Or at least mine does...

Basically this was just a lot of fun to do. Definitely want to try it with other people writing the letters with glowsticks or sparklers!

Day 88 - Motorway Lights

Motorway Lights - Auckland, NZ

The lights of the motorway, somewhat distorted by the metal fencing put up to stop people chucking things down onto the cars below.

I find light trails really interesting, and I also wish I knew how to get this shot without the fence!  I tried a few different angles and then also tried to zoom out and unfocus but my hands started getting a bit shakey so everything got blurry.  I'll figure that one out one day! Or I suppose I could just edit the photo....

Thoughts? Tips? Any ideas on removing the annoying fence? You know, without physically pulling it down haha.

Day 87 - Date Nights and Train Rides

Train view between Britomart and Orakei - Auckland, NZ

I had a 'date' night with one of my good friends in town and got to go on the train!! I really miss the trip between Meadowbank and Britomart, particularly the stretch from Orakei.

Bad quality photo above, will try and upload a nicer one, but it was absolutely beautiful with the sunset and the lights reflecting off the water.  Definitely need to do another trip and take my actual camera.

Someone should have mentioned I missed uploading a day!!! I've had this post sitting as a draft for a couple of weeks now....

Day 86 - Puppy Love

Purex Puppies!

So in light of the news that my mum is getting a new puppy (!!!), here are some of my Purex Puppies that live in my bookshelf!

Occasionally when you buy Purex toilet paper, there are these cute little soft toys included with the large packs! I have 3, they don't have names but theres the rugby one, the guide dog one and the easter one!  I haven't seen any more recently but they are totally adorable.

And back to the news that my mum is getting a puppy! EXCITING! I think she is picking it up on the 3rd of April, might take the day off and go down with her.

Shes stuck on names at the moment too, its a little girl chocolate labrador. Mums thinking Gaia at the moment.

Got any suggestions on good names for a female puppy?

Day 85 - Dreaming of Race Tracks

Onehunga Off-Ramp - Auckland, NZ

We went for a nice walk tonight, with the aim to go up the hill overlooking the motorway so I could get some photos of the traffic like this previous one.  It was a bit dark and windy to go up the way I had thought we would go, so decided on a different track instead.

We came up to the motorway by the Church at Sylvia Park. I didn't bring a tri-pod or anything to steady the camera so my first couple of the full motorway didn't turn out that great.

The BF kept commenting on the 'Race Track' down below, so we jumped the fence, found a steady ledge and waited for the right moment!

I love how it turned out :)

Day 84 - Rainy Morning

Rainy Days

I woke up this morning and took the time to get ready for work (normally I'm running late and just chuck on the nearest clothes and race out the door!).  I thought I was looking good and ready for the day.

Opened the door and BAM! Rain. Light Rain, but rain none-the-less.

I don't currently have an umbrella, lost my last one before summer started and haven't bothered to get a new one yet. I was not looking forward to the walk to work. Grabbed my hoodie and snapped this picture on my way out.

Hopefully the weather clears up! I'm not wanting the sunny days to end yet!

Also, I'm up-to-date!!!

Day 83 - Colourful Bracelet

Shiny Colourful Bracelet

More of my favourite things!

I purchased this several years ago due to the bright colours and floral pattern.

It's come a long way with me and you can tell.  There's a few scratches and brakes in it now and its a bit chunkier then I like to wear these days but I can't bare to get rid of it.

Day 82 - Good Morning

Miss A watching TV Shows in the morning.

We had Miss A this weekend, and every morning is spent curled up on the couch watching one of her favourite shows before breakfast.

This morning it was Gravity Falls, a Disney Channel original.  It's a pretty entertaining kids cartoon. Check out the trailer here.

Day 81 - Cat in a Bag

Casanova, The Gift Bag.

The BF's dad popped round with some gifts for Miss A this weekend.  He unintentionally also brought round a gift for Cas!

Bags are one of Cas' cheapest play toys, and one big enough for him to be carried around in?! So much better.  He loved playing in this one.  He even managed to jump out of it without touching the sides.

He's so cute.

Day 80 - Frederick!

Our new friend, Frederick! - Mission Bay, Auckland, NZ

We made a friend at Mission Bay, he ate our chips, chilled out on the bench next to us and chased away any other birds.

He was cool, we named him Fred! Short for Frederick!!

I hope we meet again.

Day 79 - Gutter Plant

The Gutter Plant!

Not an great photo, but amusing none-the-less.

This plant has been there since we moved in.  I attempted to pull it out a couple of weeks ago, but it is well and truly rooted into the gutter!  I didn't want to try pulling harder when I was leaning over the balcony.

I might need to invest in a ladder and get it out before winter really sets in.  Wouldn't want the gutter overflowing into the house!

Day 78 - Doctor Whooves

Doctor Whooves, Ready for Adventure!

So this was another day where I didn't have time to take a photo of anything.  I did try to get a quick snap of DW in his cubby, but the lighting made it look weird.

This particular photo of DW was taken when we went down to Wellington for the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular.  He was exploring on the waterfront, trying to track down some little Adipose that had got lost in the Capital.

Other photos of my adventure in Wellington are here!

Day 77 - What ya doing Totoro!

Totoro in a Jar. Love it

So I'm thinking up new ideas for what to do in my 'crafts' room. Everything from re-arranging to organising to moving rooms completely.

Unfortunately as we are renting, I can't take more drastic measures such as painting or pinning things into the wall.

For now, I'm just going to keep putting some of my knick-knacks into new and interesting places.  Hopefully some day soon everything will look like it's found its place.

Plus Totoro totally looks like he belongs in that Jar, I think he's just waiting for the rain to come in!

Day 76 - Floral Pillows

Patterns on my couch pillows

Another lazy afternoon spent on the couch post-work.  These are the fronts of the pillows that adorn my lovely couch.  I must admit the couch was one of the best purchases I made after moving out of the flat.

I love the floral patterns on the pillows and also the fact that on the other side is the same fabric as the rest of the couch if I want to mix-match or have everything the same.

Something funky is going on with my uploads today... not sure what it is but I'll try and remedy it when I get home. I'm almost up-to-date! I might try and post the rest of the photos tonight!

Day 75 - Sneaky Hobbit

Sitting on a windowsill in 'Hobbiton' - Matamata, NZ

The BF will probably hate this photo... but I was more interested in what he was doing than taking photos for the day.  The others I took were pretty meh, and I like how sneaky he's trying to be.

He was 'geocaching'.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

For more info go here.

Its pretty interesting, and can be quite a lot of fun!

I was trying to hide his sneakiness by taking photos of him, as if that was why he was sitting on the windowsill.  I'm not entirely sure it worked haha.

This is a great activity to do with anyone! And it's quite exciting when you start finding them!  It's done by people world-wide, so look up a location near you and see if you can spot any!

Day 74 - 60!

Happy Birthday Mike! You're now the BIG SIX OH!

Today was my uncles big 60th birthday! We had a big bash down in Rotorua which was awesome!

Drove down after lunch (weather was crap due to a cyclone, luckily it wasn't as bad as people were expecting!), checked into the hotel and got ready.  Headed down to the party and had a blast!

Food was great! Tried some sparkling sauvignon blanc which was alright.  Finished off the bottle.  Took some photos, talked to the rellies and then headed off 'home' for the night.

I hope when I'm 60 I can party as hard as these guys did!

Day 73 - Cat Movie Night

Movie Nights with Casanova

Tonight, was a quiet night in.  Dinner, a quick tidy up and then snuggle on the couch watching tv/movies.  Cas decided to join us and watch some TV!

After settling in on the bookshelf (and digging into my shirt I'd left there, clearly to make it more comfortable to lie on!) and meowing to announce his presence, we all chilled out on the couch for a couple of hours.

I enjoy these quiet moments with my two favourite boys!

Honestly, I'm really not sure what is going on with this image... the quality has degraded quite a bit, mostly the darks are no longer darks... Got any ideas?

Day 72 - Long Path Home

Walkway to the Train - Glen Innes, Auckland, NZ

So this is the walkway I mentioned a couple of posts ago that used to have graffiti all over that wall (where in this photo is just some random tagging they haven't cleaned up yet).

It was bright, colourful and always interesting to see what was going to go up next.  From the bottom by the grass, right up to the top under that 'fencing'.

There is a couple of other people who also walk/bike along here at the same time as me.  You start recognising a few of the faces when you walk the same route everyday and I always say a nice friendly hello as I walk past.

Day 71 - One Mans Trash...

Glen Innes, Auckland, NZ

I'm in a black and white mood at the moment.  Always fun to experiment.

Anyway I walk past this place everyday on my way to the train station from work.  I have no idea what they do, but there is an awful lot of stuff piled into this open section. Mostly rusted/rusting pipes, barrels, containers.  Things that I imagine wouldn't ever be needed.

But I guess one mans trash is another mans treasure.  Next time I see someone in there I might ask.

Got any stories about a treasure you have found in the trash?

Day 70 - Textures

Twine and Things

I thought I'd take a photo of a few things that were lying around my crafts room.  Front and most prominent is a ball of twine/string, sitting on a striped tray with my jewelry box in the background.

I think I could have focused it better at a different point, overall I like the different textures the objects created.

Got any ideas of things a could put together in a hurry for a quick snap?

Day 69 - Shortcut

Glen Innes Rail Bridge - Auckland, NZ

This is actually a photo a took several weeks ago, walking from work to get to the pools in Glen Innes. I took this same shortcut on my way home from work today so I feel its ok to use this photo!

This is a great shortcut, unless it's raining or it's been raining!  Then I take the long way...

I know a lot of people don't like Graffiti, I sit on both sides of the fence when it comes down to it.  I love the Graffiti which are more artworks on buildings, such as Big Letters, full colour, pictures.  Ones where people have actually taken the time to put their artwork up.  On the other side is the quick scrawl of someones 'name', thin, plain and a waste to the artwork beneath them. I call that tagging and it should definitely not be put in the same class.

I'm not a big fan of the graffiti/tagging on this bridge, but I do miss the graffiti that used to be all along the wall next to the walkway.  I used to smile when a new large image went up.  The council covered it up a couple of years ago with the ugliest shade of light brown I have ever seen.  Its so dull walking that way now.

I definitely think there is a place for them. I'd love to go through the Melbourne side streets one day, I hear they are full of Graffiti. What are your thoughts on Graffiti?

Day 68 - Baby Shower!

Stacey's Baby Shower - Grey Lynn, Auckland, NZ

Today was my cousins wife's baby shower!  She's a couple of weeks away from her due date and both Stacey and Gareth are so excited to meet their little girl.

This baby shower was so much fun.  The sun came out to shine, the games were entertaining and the food was amazing.

Above is the dessert, cupcakes, cookies and ice cream! The ice cream was such a great idea especially on such a hot day and with all the toppings that were out to put on it! Chocolate Sauce, Marshmallows, M&Ms, Nuts and so much more.

They also got spoilt rotten, and I can't wait to meet the little one!

Congratulations you guys x

Day 67 - Just keep Swimming

My Gold Fish.

These guys are troopers, they have survived 2 moves, the death of their friend and the attack of Casanova the Menace.

I've had these two little guys for coming up to 3 years now. They did have names, once upon a time. For the life of me I can't remember.  I think they might be Spot and Pig? Not entirely sure...

I'd like to get a bigger tank for them, but that costs and  I assume they have been happy in their little world, they haven't told me otherwise!

Day 66 - Summerhouse

Rekorderlig Summerhouse, Wynyard Quarter - Auckland NZ

Friday night drinks at the amazing pop-up bar down at Wynyard Quater.  Cider, Sun, Music and Friends.  Always the best combination.

If you're into your ciders, definitely give Rekorderlig a try.  The Swedish beverage is to die for.  Strawberries and Lime is my personal favourite, but the range of flavours is great. (Plus they are all pretty amazing!)

Unfornately the Summerhouse closes on the 16 March, so I hope you got to go! If not, lets just home they do another one soon!

Day 65 - Nighttime Lights

Lights in the darkness

Another one of those days where I had completely forgotten to take a photo at all. Out the window this is all that I can see. Some lights in a corner of the block of houses we live in.

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Day 64 - Keyboard Warriors

Daenerys Targaryen and Fiona the Human stand at the ready!

So I got a new Pop! for my birthday this year (the lovely miss Fiona) to go with my one from last year (Dani!).  Love the Pop! range so much, but so far I have been able to restrain myself and not bought any.  (Not including the MLP Pop! Vinyls...)

These two now take center stage on my desk, protecting it from any invading armies or bad guys.  Although they didn't do a very good job the other day when the monstrous Casanova proceeded to knock over my screens and cause havoc in my crafts room....

I'm so close to being up to date!! I'm hoping to knock off a few more posts today...

Day 63 - Meow

Casanova

My gorgeous cat, what more can I say?

Probably a lot, but I'll leave it as that for today x

Day 62 - Computer Parts

Computer Parts...

So the BFs work mate is packing up all his stuff and moving to Europe.  Which mean't he was giving away a lot of stuff he couldn't take with him.  Somehow this meant we ended up with a large number of cables, controllers and miscellaneous computer parts like the above!

I think that's some kind of TV input for the computer? Not 100% sure...

I'm not sure how much of this stuff will end up being used, stored or binned. Hopefully we will find some place for it all.

Has your SO ever brought home stuff that you were just like WHY??

Day 61 - Supervised Exploring

Cat on a Leash?! Casanova exploring the outside world.

As you might know, we have a cat! Casanova is his name and trouble is his game!

He's a very exploratory cat, loves to sniff and poke his paw into everything.  We've been harness training him since we got him as we are keeping him as an indoor cat but want him to still be able to explore the outside world.  Due to us being in an apartment and our new place is still very close to a major road we thought it would be best to continue with the harness and leash. We would hate for anything to happen to him when he's out on his own.  So for the foreseeable future he will remain an inside cat with supervised visits to the outside world.

He loves his trips outside and I hope to expand on his playground as soon as possible!  I also hope to grow an indoor garden for him to be able to play in during the day.

He's getting very confident outside now and is often pushing the boundaries of where he can go.
Maybe one day, when we have our own house, he can completely be free.

Until then I feel it's safer for him and the wildlife if he stays indoors.

Have you ever harness trained your cat?  Do you have any advice for indoor cat owners?  Would love to hear from you!

Day 60 - Markets!

Silo Park Markets - Auckland, NZ

In my quest to do more things we decided to head on down to the waterfront and see what was on! Down at Wynyard Quarter on the waterfront there was the Silo Markets, and I can never say no to a good market!  Lots of goodies to look at and it was a bright sunny day too!

We thought about grabbing some of the delicious smelling food on offer as well, but decided on going to the Fish Market instead. Yum!

What are the best markets near you?
